FOOTBALL PARTY FOR CARE HOME RESIDENTS

Beech Manor hosted a football-themed party for its residents having recently won a World Cup sweepstake competition across all Renaissance Care homes, and we were invited to join them!

Saints in the Community recently visited Beech Manor Care Home in Blairgowrie to enjoy a kick about, football themed games and reminiscing with the residents during their football-themed party.

“We were thrilled to attend Beech Manor to join their residents’ World Cup party. It’s clear that the residents’ appetite and enthusiasm for the game hasn’t diminished over the years as games of World Cup Bingo and the penalty shoot-out were both a big hit!” - Euan McLeod, Community Projects Development Manager at Saints in the Community

The Community Trust’s recently launched new organisational strategy highlights how we try to harness the power which sport, and in particular football, has. We are dedicated to promoting healthy aging by supporting people to stay active, healthy, and socially engaged, and events like these are exactly what it’s all about. We are grateful to Sheila for inviting us.

Saints in the Community volunteer Charlie Smith visits Beech Manor on a fortnightly basis to host Football Memories, which encourages their residents to recount their favourite football moments, players, and goals all with the intention of providing that social interaction for residents.

Football Memories is an award-winning national project supported by former St Johnstone player, and one of football’s most successful managers – Sir Alex Ferguson. The programme is aimed at helping people of all ages who would benefit from social interaction - for example, those living in isolation or with a condition such as dementia or recovering from a stroke.

Run by our trained volunteers, Saints in the Community offer free sessions at:

  • McDiarmid Park, Perth;
  • The Gateway, Perth;
  • Beech Manor Care Home, Blairgowrie & Rattray; and
  • Digital sessions online

If you know of a relative, friend, or colleague who would enjoy coming along to Football Memories, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Alternatively, volunteering opportunities are available too to deliver the session and support people in your local community.
