MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING LEAGUE RETURN

Tuesday, August 29th, saw our Mental Health & Wellbeing teams take part in their most recent fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League.

The Saints in the Community squad comprising of two teams – the Yellows & the Blues – travelled through to the Toryglen Regional Football Centre for the first round of fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League since the Summer break. The Saints in the Community teams compete in the Championship Division alongside 6 other Mental Health & Wellbeing teams in 7-a-side, 15-minute fixtures.

Prior to the fixture kick offs there was a late call off from Clyde United, Ultimately giving both the Blues and the Yellows 3-0 wins against the Second placed side.

The first fixtures of the day for the Community Trust squad saw the Saints Blues facing Edinburgh Street Soccer. The game proved to be a tough challenge against the team from Edinburgh, who had only lost one of their last 5 fixtures, with the Blues losing the game 4-0. First up for the Yellows was a game against Greenock Morton who currently find themselves sitting 3rd in the league. There was plenty competitiveness shown from both teams throughout the 15-minute match with the Yellows losing the game 2-1 with McGregor picking up the goal.

The next round of fixtures for the Community Trust squads saw the Blues looking to bounce back after the early defeat playing against Greenock Morton. The match would ultimately play out in identical fashion to the Yellows, with the Blues losing the game 2-1 with McGregor - who was filling in for the Blues - picking up another goal. Next up for the Yellows after their opening defeat was the NL Kickstart Reds. Unfortunately for the Yellows, they were unable to bounce back from the opening defeat, narrowly losing the game 1-0.

Next up in the 3rd round of fixtures saw the Saints Blues playing Tayside rivals Dundee United. During the match both teams played well, proving solid in defence with the game remaining goalless throughout the duration and both teams picking up an important point.

Next up for the Community Trust squads was a Saints in the Community battle with the teams facing off against each other. The game proved to be a great spectacle, with both teams giving it their all to earn the bragging rights. In the end, the Yellows would go on to win the game 2-1 against the Blues with McIntyre & Mustard picking up the goals for the Yellows and Lowson picking up the solidary goal for the Blues.

The final round of fixtures for the Saints teams paired the Yellows against Dundee United and the Blues against Street Soccer Glasgow. The Yellows were going into the game brimmed with confidence after their recent win and this benefited them massively, going on to beat Dundee United 2-1 with Johnston picking up both goals! The Blues faced tough opposition in their final game of the day, against top of the league Street Soccer Glasgow. Unfortunately for the Blues, the day would end in defeat with the Street Soccer Glasgow team cementing their place at the top of the league with a 6-1 win against the Blues, with Lowson picking up his second of the day.

Unfortunately for the Community sides, there was a number of late call offs which provided a tricky challenge for the Blues & the Yellows but everyone who attended gave their all to keep in contention throughout the day. A massive well done to everyone involved!

With the end of this round of fixtures, the Saints Yellows currently find themselves 4th in the league within touching distance of second place. The Blues currently find themselves sitting 8th in the league still in touch with those above. There is all to play for in the final two remaining league fixture dates which take place Tuesday 26th September and Tuesday 31st October, with the Nil by Mouth League Cup Competition taking place on Tuesday 28th November.
