WINTER BOOST FOR MENTAL HEALTH TEAM

Positive mental health boost for Saints in the Community football players

On Friday, 5th February 2021, the Community Trust organised and delivered a free meal and goody bag to members of our Mental Health & Wellbeing football team.

A hot pizza was provided courtesy of the Perth Welfare Society's partnership with Must Eat, a local takeaway who have been providing meals for vulnerable community members throughout Perth during the COVID-19 crisis.

"The pizza was fantastic from Must Eat and the goody bag was brilliant! These things Saints in the Community do for us raises our morale big time and having that quick chat with the coach was fantastic. Thank you to everyone involved" - Peter, 63

Our deliveries were also coupled with a Winter care package, funded by The Gannochy Trust. Our small goody bags were bursting full of items to provide practical support and help give a positive mental boost to our players. Bags included:

  • Hot water bottle
  • Hand warmers
  • Snood
  • Shower & hygiene products
  • Shin guards
  • Football socks

Although we continue to regularly keep in touch with our players, our coaching team and volunteers made the deliveries and enjoyed the chance to see players for a short catch-up on the door step.

"It was amazing. A nice wee pick-me-up! Thank you" - Arron, 31

In normal circumstances, our players take part in regular training sesions and we also have two teams who compete in the national Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing Football League. Our training has been severely disrupted by COVID-19 and this is having a profound impact on our players, a group who use football as a tool for self-help and peer support. We all eagerly await the return of football coaching soon.
