WALKING FOOTBALL LEAGUE FIXTURES

Sunday, 21st of April, saw our Walking Football squad take part in the latest regional league fixtures.

It marked the second round of fixtures in the 2024 Walking Football Over 50s East Championship League campaign, a return to league duties after 2 months for the Saints in the Community Walking Football team. The first round of fixtures in the 2024 season proved to be a mixed bag for the Saints in the Community Walking Footballers, securing a victory against St. Duthas but facing losses to Montrose and Hibernian.

Looking to bounce back, the 8 strong Saints in the Community squad headed to the Dundee Regional Performance Centre for what promised to be a challenging yet exciting set of fixtures.

The first match of the day saw our players face up against league leaders, Carnoustie. The game proved to be a tightly contested affair with the Saints in the Community squad inflicting the league leaders their first goal conceded in the 2024 campaign. However, Carnoustie were able to group together and deliver a narrow 2-1 defeat for the Trust. Up next for the squad was Tayport. The Trust started strongly, racing into a 1-0 lead early on, however some missed opportunities and a well worked Tayport equaliser meant the Trust had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their second fixture of the day. The third and final match of the day saw our players face up against joint top of the league, Forfar. The Trust managed to limit Forfar to few chances with the game locked at 1-1 for a large duration of the match. However, Forfar finished strongly, netting three late goals, resulting in a 4-1 defeat for the Trust.

Game 1: Vs Carnoustie (2-1 defeat)

Game 2: Tayport (1-1 draw)

Game 3: Forfar (4-1 defeat)

It was a challenging set of fixtures for our squad, facing off against the league's top two teams. However, another valuable point on the board and some encouraging performances throughout the day provide the squad with a foundation to build upon for the next set of fixtures! The Trust currently finds itself in joint 8th position, with the teams directly above still within reach as the players look forward to their third round of fixtures in the 2024 season.
