AUTISM FC PREMIERSHIP DEBUT

Sunday 17th of March saw a return to action for the Saints in the Community Autism FC squad.

The healthy squad of 13 players travelled down to the Falkirk FC Stadium to compete in their first round of national Premiership league fixtures following their recent Championship title and subsequent promotion! Bearing their new, Sidey sponsored strips and accompanied by our Coaches, the players were looking to get off to the best possible start in what was a quick turnaround following their recent undefeated Championship title win at the back end of February.

The day started with a quick warmup session before the team emerged from the tunnel and onto the pitch to kickstart their Premiership campaign against Monifeith. It was a slow start from the squad against fellow promoted, Monifeith, however they soon kicked into the gear that saw them so impressive in the Championship and the squad manged to turn the game around and ultimately got the day off to a winning start!

Next up for the squad were 3, quickfire, tough fixtures against Morton, Hibernian & Rangers. However, the Saints in the Community squad showed no signs of letting the step up to the Premiership slow down their form over the last 12 months, picking up back to back wins against Morton and Hibernian followed up with a draw against reigning Scottish Cup Champions – Rangers!

The day rounded off with the squad facing off against the final premiership side, Bonnyrigg Rose! The Saints in the Community squad who had continued their unbeaten Championship form throughout their maiden Premiership Campaign, were looking to extend this run and managed to do so thanks to some great goalkeeping, with a further victory to end the day and bring to the close a quite extraordinary first Premiership Campaign for the newly promoted squad.

The full squad played their part throughout the day, showcasing teamwork, dedication, and a touch of quality. Following the conclusion of the National Premiership fixtures, the standings were calculated, and we are thrilled to announce that the Saints in the Community squad has claimed yet another title… being crowned Champions of the National Autism Premiership, marking their second piece of silverware in as many months!!

It has been another incredible round of fixtures for the Saints in the Community squad as they continue to go from strength to strength as a team, whether it be at their weekly training sessions at McDiarmid Park or at their fixtures throughout Scotland!
