MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING TEAM COMPETE AT BROADWOOD
Tuesday, September 24th saw our Mental Health & Wellbeing squad take part in their most recent fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League.
The 10 strong, Saints in the Community squad travelled through to Broadwood Stadium, for the fourth and final round of fixtures in the Scottish Mental Health & Wellbeing League before the squad venture into their annual Scottish Cup campaign. The Saints in the Community teams compete in the Championship Division alongside 7 other Mental Health & Wellbeing teams in 7 a side, 15 minute fixtures.
The first fixture of the day for the Community squad saw the squad facing Stenhousemuir as the squad looked to get the day off to the best possible start. The game was closely contested, with both teams determined to get points on the board as early as possible. However, a fantastic Saints performance saw them keep a clean sheet and secure a 2-0 victory, with Charles and Gary L netting the all-important goals.
Looking to continue their impressive start to the day, the Community squad geared up for a Tayside Derby against Dundee United! The Saints in the Community squad - who had lost out to Dundee United in the previous meeting between the two - again played well throughout the match, however, would have to settle with a draw with the game finishing 0-0.
The 3rd fixture of the day saw the Community squad facing up against the league’s frontrunners, Edinburgh Street Soccer. Brimming with confidence from their earlier performances, the Saints faced a tough challenge. Unfortunately, they would fall to their first defeat of the day, losing 3-0 to the Edinburgh side.
Next, the Community squad faced Dundee United once again, eager to bounce back from the earlier loss. Despite battling hard and creating several chances, the squad narrowly lost 1-0 in what was a very tight encounter between the two Tayside teams.
The final round of fixtures would see the Saints in the Community squad pick up another 3 points, as the Community squad were awarded a 3-0 win due to their opponents' absence.
The squad can be proud of their performances, with every player putting in an incredible effort despite the stop-start nature of the day. We look forward to seeing how the squad gets on in November when they partake in their annual Scottish Cup campaign!
